What is Markdown?

Markdown is a lightweight markup language created by John Gruber in 2004. It lets you write formatted text using plain text syntax. This tool renders your Markdown in real-time entirely in your browser — no data is sent to any server.

Supported Syntax

  • Headers (# through ######)
  • Bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code
  • Code blocks with language hints
  • Ordered and unordered lists
  • Links and images
  • Blockquotes, horizontal rules
  • Tables with alignment
